Weekend sports anchor Eric Yutzy is an avid reader who wants to share his love of libraries with his neighbors. That’s why he agreed to join Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library’s Geek the Library campaign and build awareness about this community resource.
Eric and his family can often be found browsing the shelves and attending family-friendly programs at the Library, but that wasn’t always the case. Eric confesses, “I didn’t used to use the library.” As a matter of fact, he didn’t read much beyond sports news (of course) and an occasional fiction book.
A few years ago, a simple New Year’s resolution changed his habits and expanded his world. It also reformed his view of libraries.
Caught up in the business of being a sports anchor, Eric wasn’t sure how he was going to keep this resolution: “Read one non-sports, non-fiction book a month.” Yet, he was determined to embrace his passion for learning.
His quest led him to his local library. While that decision alone would make any librarian proud, Eric followed through on his resolution and checked out non-fiction books on many varied topics throughout the year.
“I’ve been amazed at the places you can go and what you can learn through reading,” Eric said. “All it takes is wandering through the stacks and reaching out for that book.”
Surrounded by his family, Eric often slips into the Library to share his love of discovery with his children. “We bring the kids all the time … they get upset when we have to leave.” Ah, music to a librarian’s ears!
After hearing his story, you know why Eric agreed to join Hussey-Mayfield’s Geek the Library campaign: To help his neighbors discover the joy of learning that awaits them within the Library.
Our online catalog makes it easy for Zionsville residents to explore Library materials without leaving the comfort of their home. Simply search for subjects that interest you and you may find yourself amazed by the wealth of materials available for check-out at the Library.
